Hong Kong Customs steps up enforcement action against counterfeit goods activities (with photos)

     ​Hong Kong Customs yesterday (June 10) conducted a special operation in Kowloon Bay and Mong Kok to combat the sale of counterfeit goods and seized about 2 800 items of suspected counterfeit goods with an estimated market value of about $1.4 million. 

     Customs earlier conducted patrol operations and discovered some mobile hawkers selling suspected counterfeit goods in Kowloon Bay. After an in-depth investigation, Customs officers took enforcement action yesterday. A mobile hawker stall in Kowloon Bay and an associated storage centre in Mong Kok were raided and the batch of suspected counterfeit goods, including handbags, watches and clothes, was seized.

     During the operation, a 21-year-old man was arrested and he has been released on bail pending further investigation.
      
     Investigation is ongoing.

     Customs will continue to step up inspection and enforcement to vigorously combat different kinds of counterfeit goods activities. 

     Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person who sells or possesses for sale any goods with a forged trademark commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
