"Pleasure and Leisure: A Glimpse of Children's Pastimes in Hong Kong" roving exhibition and talk to be held at the Sha Tin Public Library in October (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The roving exhibition "Pleasure and Leisure: A Glimpse of Children's Pastimes in Hong Kong" will be held at the Sha Tin Public Library from October 1 to 30. Through the exhibition, one can learn more about the transformation of Hong Kong's society and livelihoods from the 1950s to the 1980s, and relive the joyful childhood moments in those years. This is the third roving exhibition under the same theme organised by the Public Records Office (PRO) of the Government Records Service.

"During the roving exhibition, we will also organise a talk titled 'Pleasure and Leisure: A Glimpse of Children's Pastimes in Hong Kong - Our Archives, Our Stories' on October 19 at the Sha Tin Public Library. The talk, to be conducted in Cantonese, will cover the functions and services of the PRO, some highlighted holdings and the current exhibition. Limited seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis," a spokesman for the PRO said.

"Furthermore, we would like to express our gratitude to members of the public who have actively responded to our public engagement programmes starting from February as part of our exhibition. Our exhibition is enriched by the toys lent and photographs provided by them.

"Through the public engagement programmes, we have collected toys from the 1950s to the 1980s, including dolls, roly-poly toys and models of robots. Meanwhile, we have also acquired photographs taken in places like playgrounds, amusement parks and exhibitions. These toys and photographs are part of our precious collective memory.

"The toys and photographs collection programmes will conclude on November 30. Members of the public are encouraged to take the opportunity to make their generous contributions by lending toys and providing photographs to us. Details are available at the dedicated webpage of the exhibition (www.grs.gov.hk/ws/online/pal/en/participation.html)."

An upcoming roving exhibition and talk under the same theme will be held at the Hong Kong Central Library in December. Details are uploaded to the dedicated webpage of the exhibition (www.grs.gov.hk/ws/online/pal/en/index.html). Admission to all roving exhibitions and talks is free.
