Special traffic and transport arrangements for public processions next Tuesday

     The Transport Department (TD) today (April 27) reminded the public that special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on Hong Kong Island next Tuesday (May 1) to facilitate public processions on Hong Kong Island.

     The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

* From about 10.30am, Hennessy Road westbound and the roads in the vicinity of Admiralty (such as Queensway, Rodney Street, Harcourt Road and Tim Mei Avenue) will be intermittently closed;

* From about 11am, the roads in the vicinity of Admiralty (such as Queensway eastbound, Tamar Street, Harcourt Road westbound, Tim Wa Avenue and Tim Mei Avenue) will be intermittently closed;

* From about 12.30pm, the section of Gloucester Road outside Victoria Park, Sugar Street, Yee Wo Street, Causeway Road, Leighton Road westbound, Keswick Street and Pennington Street will be intermittently closed;.

* From about 1.30pm, the section of Gloucester Road outside Victoria Park, Sugar Street and Jardine's Bazaar will be intermittently closed;

* From about 2.15pm, Yee Wo Street westbound, the slow lane of Hennessy Road westbound, the roads in the vicinity of Causeway Bay shopping area, Wan Chai Southorn Playground and Admiralty (such as Yun Ping Road, Kai Chiu Road, Lee Garden Road, Johnston Road, Luard Road, Fenwick Street, the slow lane of Queensway eastbound, Rodney Street and Harcourt Road westbound) will be intermittently closed; and

* A total of 54 bus routes and five green minibus routes operating in the affected areas will be temporarily diverted, and one green minibus route will be suspended. The public transport operators concerned will arrange publicity to inform passengers of the temporary arrangements.

     The TD anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central will be significantly congested. Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. They should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion and follow the instructions given by the Police.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to plan their routes in advance, allow more travelling time to cater for unexpected delay and use public transport services as far as possible, in particular railway services. Public transport commuters are advised to pay attention to the arrangements for route diversions and the suspension and relocation of stops.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. Members of the public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news released via the media.
