Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre runs workshop on art of arbitration in Frankfurt

Hong Kong is internationally valued for its long common law tradition, judicial independence and highly qualified professionals. With the successful implementation of "one country, two systems", the city has developed into an international hub for legal and arbitration services for the Chinese and Asian markets.
Hong Kong is also home of the HKIAC, one of the world's leading dispute resolution organisations, which specialises in arbitration, mediation, adjudication and domain name dispute resolution. The Queen Mary University of London and White & Case's 2015 International Arbitration Survey ranked the HKIAC as the third most preferred and used arbitral institution worldwide, and the most favoured arbitral institution outside Europe.
To promote the HKIAC's dispute resolution services in Germany, the organisation sent one of its top experts in arbitration rules and procedures, Managing Counsel Mr Joe Liu, to share his knowledge and experience with legal professionals in Frankfurt.
Accompanied by other speakers from leading international law firms, Mr Liu presented a real-time negotiation concerning arbitration clauses to be included in two agreements involving a Chinese private equity fund's investment in a joint venture through a German company. This practical example addressed topics including how to secure the best possible arbitration agreement for company or client, while also bearing the business objectives in mind and ensuring that corporate policy is followed.
The presentation also provided valuable insights and action approaches for German and European companies regarding the characteristics of the Chinese law system and business practices. The Deputy Director of the HKETO Berlin, Ms Alison Lo, also participated in the workshop. "This is an excellent opportunity for German businesses and law experts to learn how to make best use of Hong Kong as a legal services hub in the region and the perfect place to hone the fine art of arbitration," she said.
