SED on National Anthem Law and Basic Competency Assessment
**********************************************************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, at a media session after attending the launch ceremony for the Joint-Institution Network for Student Success cum Careers Fair today (March 9):

Reporter: Will there be a law requiring schools to teach the national anthem? Some argue that it is not necessary to put it into the law.

Secretary for Education: As I said, I think we still need some more time to study and consider what is the best approach to put that requirement (in place) or how to make sure schools will teach the national anthem. We will decide that later.

Reporter: Regarding the BCA (Basic Competency Assessment), is there a decision within this month?

Secretary for Education: That is still our plan - to have a decision within March.
