Youth musicians to perform at Music Office Annual Gala
******************************************************
Over 400 young musicians from the orchestras, bands and choirs of the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will perform a variety of Chinese and Western compositions at the Music Office Annual Gala at 3pm on April 1 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.
A colourful Chinese and Western concert programme will be presented by the Music Office Youth Choir, the Hong Kong Youth Strings, the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band and the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra under the respective batons of Dr Angelina Au, Dr Joseph Kam, Lee Sing-wan, Ng Ka-ming, Pak Wing-heng, Palas Chan and Kwok Kin-ming.
Highlights include the quintessential choral and strings' rendition of the "Hallelujah Chorus" from "Messiah"; Mascagni's refined string work "Intermezzo" from "Cavalleria Rusticana"; the rousing band music "Fantasy on Osaka Folk Tunes" and a symphonic poem by the Chinese orchestra to portray the Chinese legendary heroine, "Commander Mu Guiying".
The symphony orchestra and Chinese orchestra will respectively perform world premiere works by two noted composers, namely Richard Tsang's "Distant Lights" and Wong Hok-yeung's "Distant Mountains", to celebrate the Music Office's achievement in general music education over the past four decades.
Awards will also be presented to outstanding trainees and members of the Music Office's bands, choirs and orchestras at the Gala.
