Update on cluster of Human Metapneumovirus cases in Kowloon Hospital

Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Human Metapneumovirus in a male Rehabilitation Ward, the spokesperson for Kowloon Hospital gave the following update today (February 21):
One more 51-year-old patient in the ward presented with fever and respiratory symptoms. An appropriate viral test was arranged for the patient and the test result was positive for Human Metapneumovirus. The patient concerned has been transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is in serious condition.
Limited admission and visiting to the ward have been imposed. Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.
The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
