BFAC welcomes Government's continuous efforts to facilitate business compliance

The Business Facilitation Advisory Committee held its 36th meeting today (December 21). The Environmental Protection Department briefed the committee on the implementation arrangements for municipal solid waste charging.
The committee also noted the work of its three task forces. This includes:
(a) The Food and Health Bureau (FHB) and the Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) jointly briefed the Wholesale and Retail Task Force (WRTF) on the current measures for import control and surveillance of hairy crabs as well as the latest position on the import of hairy crabs into Hong Kong. The WRTF appreciated that the FHB and CFS had taken note of the trades' concerns and jointly made efforts to facilitate the import and sale of hairy crabs in Hong Kong while safeguarding public health.
(b) The Fire Services Department (FSD) briefed the WRTF on the proposed control regime of dangerous goods in consumer packs under the Dangerous Goods (Amendment) Ordinance. The WRTF welcomed the FSD's proposal, which will facilitate the trades without compromising public safety.
(c) The FEHD informed the Food Business and Related Services Task Force (FRSTF) that, with the facilitation measures put in place by the Department, the food trade in general had no difficulties in complying with the record-keeping requirement for waste cooking oils and that no irregularity had been identified so far.
(d) The Water Supplies Department informed the FRSTF that if water samples collected from the selected restaurants under the Enhanced Water Quality Monitoring Programme are not up to standard, the Department would offer free professional service to investigate the cause and advise on possible mitigation measures. The FRSTF welcomed the Programme and thanked the Government for providing the assistance to the trade concerned.
(e) The FRSTF and the Task Force on Business Liaison Groups (BLGTF) appreciated that the Government had taken note of the trade's concern and implemented new measures to facilitate the transfer of liquor licence without the consent of the existing licensee.
(f) The BLGTF welcomed that the Buildings Department had published the "Introductory Guide on Greening in Buildings" to provide an easy reference for the business community on the safe provision of greening in buildings.
The committee also appreciated the continuous efforts of the bureaux and departments in further enhancing their business licensing services under the "Be the Smart Regulator" Programme.
