Goods vehicles safety enforcement operation starts
**************************************************
During the operation, Police will take stringent enforcement actions against goods vehicles-related offences, including speeding, using a mobile phone whilst driving, failing to comply with traffic signals, failing to comply with traffic signs, failing to wear seatbelts, insecure load, overloading and illegal parking, with a view to raising drivers’ awareness of road safety.
According to Police figures, there were 2,502 traffic accidents involving goods vehicles from January to September this year, causing 3,418 casualties, among which 35 persons died.
A Police spokesman said that the main contributory factors to the accidents were driving inattentively, driving too close to the vehicle in front, careless lane changing, improper or illegal turn, and losing control of vehicle.
The Police urged goods vehicle drivers to obey road traffic regulations, pay attention to road safety and not to use mobile devices while driving.
