Police yesterday (October 11) concluded a five-day territory-wide enforcement road safety operation which served to remind drivers of public service vehicles(including taxis, franchised / non-franchised public buses, public light buses, private light buses and private school buses) of the importance of driving safety.

     The latest operation was one of the ongoing series of road safety enforcement operations conducted by the Police to target moving traffic offences.

     The operation resulted in the arrest of one taxi driver for overcharging and the issue of 132 summonses and 1,308 fixed penalty tickets. Among the summonses and fixed penalty tickets issued, 177 were for seatbelt-related offences, 138 were for speeding, 41 were for using a hand-held mobile phone while driving and nine were for failing to comply with traffic signals.

    Police will also continue to take stringent enforcement actions against offences that obstruct the picking up/setting down of passengers by public service vehicles to protect the safety of passengers.
