Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

A contractor was fined $68,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (October 11) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on January 3, 2017, at a ground floor shop renovation site in Tsim Sha Tsui. A worker, who was engaged in dismantling air-conditioning ducts near the ceiling, fell about 2.3 metres to the ground while climbing down from the top of a metal scaffold. He sustained serious head injuries and passed away on the same day.
