Hong Kong Customs steps up enforcement actions for National Day Golden Week

During the operation, about 52 grams of suspected cocaine, 15 grams of suspected methamphetamine, about 83 000 dutiable cigarettes, 42 grams of dutiable tobacco, 414 grams of dutiable cigar and 22 litres of dutiable liquor were seized.
A total of 331 persons including 282 males and 49 females, aged from 18 to 84, were arrested. The cases have been duly followed up.
Hong Kong Customs appeals to members of the public to stay away from illegal activities.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
Under the Dutiable Commodities Ordinance, anyone involved in dealing with, possession of, or selling or buying illicit cigarettes commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $1 million and imprisonment for two years.
