Free outdoor jazz concert to be held at Hong Kong Park's Olympic Square this Saturday (with photos)
******************************************************************************************
The jazz groups taking part in the concert are Alan Kwan/Patrick Lui Quartet, Hang Em High, EYOT and Samba Jazz Collective.
New York-based jazz guitarist Alan Kwan and award-winning Hong Kong jazz pianist Patrick Lui will be joined by acclaimed musicians Scott Dodd (bass) from Australia and Fish Huang (drums) from Taiwan to present a set of new original jazz compositions.
Comprising musicians from Switzerland, Austria and Poland, Hang Em High performs low-western-rock-jazz-ambient punk with live electronics. They will entertain the audience with jazz music that is psychotic, poetic, down to earth or up in the air.
EYOT from Serbia has been praised as the "Nirvana of jazz". The group brings to life music of unique creativity that strikes a pleasant balance between simplicity and sophistication, coarse yet delicate. The four musicians will bring out a beautiful eclectic sound that moves from rock to jazz, punk and ambient, all formed into strong compositions.
Guitarist Ricardo Vogt and vocalist Veronica Nunes, both from Brazil, will collaborate with several local musicians in the special Samba Jazz Collective lineup for the Hong Kong International Jazz Festival to celebrate the centenary of samba music. They will present original compositions along with well-known Brazilian classics, arranged by Vogt, with touches of electronics and improvisation. With the samba beat and the groovy heat, this music will make the audience dance and sway.
The outdoor concert is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in association with the Hong Kong Jazz Association. For programme enquiries, please visit the website:
