The spokesperson for United Christian Hospital (UCH) today (September 15) reported a theft case that happened at Kwun Tong Community Health Centre.
The Kwun Tong Community Health Centre (KTCHC) of United Christian Hospital (UCH) earlier this week discovered that a batch of patients’ blood test laboratory reports were suspected to have been stolen and reported the case to the Police.
The hospital reviewed CCTV footage and discovered that a patient, during his consultation at KTCHC on Monday night (September 11), took away the laboratory reports from the printer in the nurse station, as well as some blood collection sets and alcohol swabs. The patient returned the laboratory reports to KTCHC on Tuesday night. After investigation, it was confirmed that the case involved 24 patients’ laboratory reports and all reports have been returned.
The hospital is very concerned about the case and will fully co-operate with the police investigation. Most of the patients concerned have been informed, including an apology and an explanation, however their follow-up treatment will not be affected. The hospital will continue to contact the remaining patients. The hospital will review the handling of patients’ blood test laboratory reports in KTCHC to prevent future occurrences.
The incident has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System, while the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data was also informed.
