"Clowns' Houses" to depict loneliness of city lives through puppetry
***************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "From Puppets to Humans" Series will present "Clowns' Houses" by Germany's Merlin Puppet Theatre in October.

Merlin Puppet Theatre uses a combination of different puppetry techniques in this puppet theatre production for adults. Six residents live in five apartments in the same building. They live with their fears, obsessions and loneliness in their prison-like dark homes. They are trapped in their routines and are distanced from their dreams. "Clowns' Houses" takes an uncomfortably close look at the modern style of living.

Merlin Puppet Theatre was founded in Greece in 1995 and moved to Germany in 2011. Its founders, Dimitris Stamou and Demy Papada, are members of the Greek branch of the Union Internationale de la Marionnette (International Puppetry Association). They have also created puppets and props for other artists including the Tiger Lillies and Dirty Granny Tales. Their shows "Dreamcatcher", "Clowns' Houses" and "Noone's Land" tour frequently in international festivals and theatres around Europe.

"Clowns' Houses" by Merlin Puppet Theatre (Germany) will be staged at 8pm on October 6 and 7 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on October 8 (Sunday) at the Studio Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $200 and $260 are now available at URBTIX (www.urbtix.hk).
