Trade and Industry Advisory Board expanded to gauge wider spectrum of views

     The Government announced today (September 1) the appointment of new members to the Trade and Industry Advisory Board (TIAB) for a term from September 1, 2017, to December 31, 2019, to expand the Board’s composition and terms of reference to gauge a wider spectrum of views from different sectors on Hong Kong’s economic development and relevant policies.
 
     The new members are:

     The expanded TIAB will merge with the Textiles Advisory Board. It will continue to advise the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development and relevant government departments on matters affecting Hong Kong's trade and industry, including trade in textiles and garments, trade relations with the Mainland, the Belt and Road Initiative, the development plan for a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement.
 
     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Edward Yau, thanked the members for accepting the appointments. He said, "The expanded TIAB comprises representatives from business chambers, enterprises and professional sectors as well as young people. I will invite members to explore in particular how Hong Kong can take part gainfully in the Belt and Road Initiative and the Bay Area development. With the experience and expertise of the members in their respective sectors, I am confident that they will offer valuable advice on these aspects. 
 
     "Hong Kong stands to benefit from the Belt and Road Initiative and the Bay Area development. We need to grasp the new opportunities arising from these two important blueprints, and turn them into impetus for our economic growth."
 
     The membership list of the TIAB starting from September 1, 2017, is in the Annex.
