New round of "Meet-the-Authors" talks to be held at public libraries

A new round of talks in the "Meet-the-Authors 2017" series, organised by the Hong Kong Public Libraries of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be held from September to November. Under this year's theme, "Hong Kong: A Cultural Puzzle", authors will share their unique experiences of the multicultural aspects of Hong Kong, offering participants a better understanding of their hometown.
The talks, to be held at various public libraries, are divided into three series, namely "Exploring New Dimensions of Hong Kong", "Searching for Memories of Hong Kong" and "Appreciation of History of Hong Kong". Young people, students and other interested parties are invited to attend. All the talks will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free.
Nine talks will be held from September to November with details as follows:
"Exploring New Dimensions of Hong Kong" series
On September 9, social enterprise founder Mr Chan Chi-yuen will talk about his journey of experiencing different cultures in Iran, Democratic People's Republic of Korea and other places; on November 4, literature and poetry writer Ms Yau Yan-ni will explain the development of literature and poetry creation in Hong Kong; and on November 18, writer and painter Ms Ip Hiu-man will elaborate on how she depicts Hong Kong’s breathtaking scenery using illustrations and writing.
"Searching for Memories of Hong Kong" series
On September 2, journalist and writer Mr Leung Ka-kuen will explore Hong Kong's unique and fascinating food culture; on September 30, teacher and writer Ms Chow Ka-ying will talk about the history of bookstores in Hong Kong, in particular the development of independent bookstores; on October 7, Vice-President of the Hong Kong Liberal Studies Association Mr Yi Dong will reminisce with participants about the old days on public housing estates; and on October 21, teacher and writer Mr Chui Chun-pong will explore Hong Kong's former social landscapes through old photographs and artefacts.
"Appreciation of History of Hong Kong" series
On September 23, Chair Professor of Geography Jim Chi-yung of the University of Hong Kong will elaborate on stonewall trees and the culture of local tree preservation; and on October 14, instructor of Hong Kong History, Antiquities and Monuments Mr So Man-hing will analyse the cultural history of Chinese architecture and relics in Hong Kong.
