Detailed statistics of various geographical areas of Hong Kong based on 2016 Population By-census announced

The Census and Statistics Department released today (June 29) the detailed results of the 2016 Population By-census analysed by District Council District, District Council Constituency Area and New Town.
According to the results, Sha Tin District had the largest population of 659 794 persons among all the District Council districts, followed by Kwun Tong District (648 541 persons) and Yuen Long District (614 178 persons). Islands District had the smallest population of 156 801 persons.
Kowloon City District had the largest proportion of persons having internally migrated in 2016, with 16.8% of the population aged 5 and over living in another area in Hong Kong five years ago. On the other hand, Tuen Mun District (7.2%) was the district with the smallest proportion in this aspect.
In 2016, the proportion of working population who worked in the same district of their residence in Central and Western District, at 34.9%, was the highest. On the contrary, less than 10% of the working population in Sai Kung District worked in the same district of their residence.
Analysed by District Council Constituency Area, the median age of the population living in Kwun Tong District Council On Lee was 55.5, the highest among all the District Council Constituency Areas. The median age of Yuen Long District Council Tin Heng was 33.9, the lowest among all the District Council Constituency Areas. Sham Shui Po District Council Lai Chi Kok Central had the highest labour force participation rate (74.0%) whereas the lowest labour force participation rate was recorded in Kwun Tong District Council On Lee (44.9%).
There were 487 407 persons and 172 698 domestic households in Tuen Mun New Town, the highest among all new towns.

Detailed statistics of Tertiary Planning Units and major housing estates will be released in the thematic website of the 2016 Population By-census for free downloading later this year.
