Police strongly condemn behaviour endangering public safety
***********************************************************
Police received a report made by a security guard of the Golden Bauhinia Square at 5.45pm today, that some people gathered at the Square with a number of them climbed up the sculpture. During the incident, Police gave repeated advice and warnings, to request the protesters to cease their actions and appeal to them to express their views in a peaceful and rational manner but they refused to comply.
Police took resolute arrest actions to safeguard the protesters' own safety as well as public safety and public order.
Police arrested 20 males and six females, aged 19 to 61, for "public nuisance".
Police condemned the irresponsible behaviour of the protesters, which endangered their own safety and public safety, disregarded public order and interrupted Police's anti-terrorist security operation.
Police reiterate that we respect the public's freedoms of expression, speech and assembly. It is the policy of Police to facilitate all lawful and peaceful public events while at the same time ensuring public safety and public order. Resolute enforcement actions will be taken against any illegal acts to preserve public order and safeguard public safety.
