The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting Minister for EU Affairs and Trade of Sweden, Ms Ann Linde, at the Chief Executive's Office this morning (June 28) to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
The Chief Executive said that Hong Kong and Sweden enjoy close economic and trade ties. As an international financial centre, Hong Kong can act as a "super-connector" for Swedish enterprises to connect with the markets in the Mainland of China and in Asia.
Mr Leung noted that the Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine in Hong Kong, established in 2016, is the first overseas centre set up by the Karolinska Institutet of Sweden. The centre helps promote regenerative medicine and stem cell research as well as the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong.
The Chief Executive also said he hoped that the two places can continue to strengthen exchanges and co-operation on various fronts so as to explore more collaboration opportunities by leveraging Hong Kong's combined advantages under "one country, two systems".
