Hong Kong brands are trustworthy and have a worldwide reputation for quality, design and innovation, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said in Beijing today (June 27), adding that Mainland consumers have increasingly high demand for goods and services as the Mainland economy undergoes rapid development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Hong Kong Trendy Products Expo, Beijing and the Hong Kong Brand Festivalļ¼ŽBeijing, Mr So said it is a momentous occasion to have the Expo and the Hong Kong Brand Festival held in Beijing as this year marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

"By bringing Hong Kong's quality and trendy products to Beijing, the Expo enhances Beijing consumers' knowledge of Hong Kong brands. It also provides a platform for Hong Kong brands, especially those enterprises which are newly established or in a small scale, to have more opportunities to showcase their quality products to Mainland buyers and consumers, and help them expand their business and promote the development of Hong Kong brands in the Mainland market," Mr So said.

The 2017 Hong Kong Trendy Products Expo, Beijing is jointly organised by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong (CMA) and the Hong Kong Beijing Association, with about 300 booths set up in seven thematic sales and display zones.

The Hong Kong Brand Festivalā€§Beijing is co-organised by the Hong Kong Brand Development Council and the CMA under the sponsorship of the Government's Dedicated Fund on Branding, Upgrading and Domestic Sales. Themed "'Celebration! Loving Hong Kong' Brand Festival in Beijing", the event showcases the historical inheritance and latest developments of Hong Kong brands as well as Hong Kong's remarkable economic achievements since its return to the motherland through various activities such as brands display, brands study and exchanges among enterprises. Both events are being held in the National Agriculture Exhibition Center in Beijing from today until July 2.

Before the opening ceremony, Mr So met with the Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr Wang Shouwen, in a lunch meeting. Mr So will also attend a dinner hosted by the CMA this evening.

Mr So will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (June 28).
