The Sha Tin District Council presented the "Thematic Light-and-Music Show" at the Shing Mun Riverside Terrace next to Yuen Wo Road Sports Centre tonight (June 17). The event was held to mark the official launch of the district’s thematic lighting system, which was the first item under the Signature Project Scheme (Sha Tin District).
The Signature Project Scheme of the Sha Tin District comprises two projects, namely Revitalisation of Shing Mun River Promenade near Sha Tin Town Centre and Decking of Tai Wai Nullah in Sha Tin. The Revitalisation of Shing Mun River Promenade near Sha Tin Town Centre project aims to harness the potentials and opportunities of revitalising the Shing Mun River promenade, thereby enhancing public enjoyment. The project scope involves installation of a new lighting system for the Lek Yuen Bridge, the Sand Martin Bridge and the Banyan Bridge with new thematic lighting. Construction works of the new lighting system were completed in May 2017. The lighting of the three bridges dovetails with each other to further enhance aesthetics, showcasing featured lighting effects at dedicated junctures as needed.
In the show, unique thematic lighting was integrated with live Chinese orchestral performance by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, creating a diverse and attractive atmosphere along the Shing Mun River promenade. Complementing specially designed lighting effects, 11 works were performed by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, including "The Dragon Boat Race", "The Moon Is Like My Heart" and "Sing Sing Sing". Public viewing areas were designated on both sides of the Shing Mun River near the Sand Martin Bridge for members of the public to enjoy the show in a delightful atmosphere.
The "Thematic Light-and-Music Show" was one of the events being held in Sha Tin District to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The officiating guests included the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui; the Director of Home Affairs, Miss Janice Tse; the Acting Director of Civil Engineering and Development and Commissioner of Mines, Mr Norman Heung; the District Officer (Sha Tin), Miss Amy Chan; the Chairman of the Sha Tin District Council, Mr Ho Hau-cheung; and the Head of Charities (Grant Making - Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture) of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Ms Rhoda Chan.
