Fire safety a priority at public housing estates (with photos)
**************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

Regular fire safety drills and awareness programmes are an important part of the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA)'s estate management activities, in recognition of the fact that fire poses one of the greatest risks in public housing estates.

Apart from regular fire drills, fire safety tips and related information are regularly shared in video broadcasts on the Housing Channel - a video network in public rental housing (PRH) estates - and on local radio channels and posters with various fire prevention themes. Estate Fire Safety Fun Fairs are also held, so that fire prevention messages can reach our PRH tenants through a variety of channels.

Additionally, Estate Management Advisory Committees (EMACs), whose members include tenant representatives of PRH estates, ensure that messages on the importance of fire safety are disseminated even more widely among tenants. This year, the HA has granted awards to members of the 21 EMACs that have effectively promoted fire safety awareness at their PRH estates. In recognition of their efforts, 90 members from the winning EMACs were given a special tour of the Fire and Ambulance Services Education Centre cum Museum at Pak Shing Kok, Tseung Kwan O earlier to further enhance their fire prevention knowledge.
