SED and university leaders to visit Beijing to enhance education co-operation
*****************************************************************************
Soon after arrival, the Hong Kong delegation will meet with officials of the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission to exchange views on higher education.
On the following day (June 1), the Hong Kong delegation will attend a high-level meeting with education officials and representatives from renowned universities in Beijing to deliberate on facilitating universities in both cities to participate in education co-operation and exchanges within the Belt and Road region, as well as the proposed establishment of the Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance.
Mr Ng strongly supports the setting up of university alliances for the promotion of academic and research collaborations. After some liaising, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance was founded in November 2016.
Officials accompanying Mr Ng on his visit to Beijing will include the Deputy Secretary for Education, Mr Brian Lo, and the Administrative Assistant to the SED, Mr Edward Yu. They will return to Hong Kong after the high-level meeting.
While Mr Ng is on duty visit, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the acting SED.
