Hong Kong Customs seizes suspected cocaine (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs yesterday (May 1) seized about 1 kilogram of suspected cocaine and a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine with an estimated market value of about $840,000 in Lam Tin.

     During an anti-narcotics operation in Lam Tin yesterday evening, Customs officers intercepted a man and found about 1kg of suspected cocaine inside a backpack carried by him. The man, aged 20, was arrested. After investigation, Customs officers escorted the arrested person to a residential premises nearby where a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine and a batch of drug packaging paraphernalia were seized.

     The arrested man claimed to be a security guard. Investigation is ongoing.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $5 million and life imprisonment.
