SCED speaks on HKCTV
********************
Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, on Hong Kong Cable Television Limited (HKCTV) at a media session in the Legislative Council Complex today (April 21):
Reporter: From what you have said, does it mean that it is highly unlikely that you will allow the deadline to get extended?
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I did not say so. I only lay out some of the considerations I have right now, particularly the desirability of Hong Kong people to be able to access quality television programming. This new development has only come to my desk three days ago. I need to consider the latest situation. And from the employees' point of view, there is significant employment, affecting 2,000 employees. These are all relevant considerations. Of course, we have to handle this according to established procedures and the law. Therefore, I must consider this carefully.
