Speaking at a reception before the concert, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Shirley Yung, said that the HK Phil is the largest symphony orchestra in Hong Kong, and is also a cultural ambassador to promote arts and cultural exchange outside Hong Kong.
"The HK Phil concert in Osaka is part of the series of events in Japan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region," Ms Yung said.
Supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Tokyo (HKETO Tokyo), the concert was the second stop of the HK Phil's five-city international tour in the 20th anniversary celebration. The first stop of the HK Phil tour was in Seoul (April 16), and it will continue with concerts in Singapore (May 1), Melbourne (May 4) and Sydney (May 5).
The HK Phil is a major performing arts group in Hong Kong, and is recognised as Asia’s foremost classical orchestra. It presents over 150 performances for an audience of 200 000 annually.
