The exhibition "The Legend of Hong Kong Toys" now being held at the Hong Kong Museum of History has been well received by the public. To allow more visitors to enjoy the exhibition, the museum will extend the opening hours of this exhibition to 8pm during the Easter holidays (April 14 to 17).
      
     Since its opening on March 2, the exhibition has received more than 150 000 visitors with an average daily attendance of over 5 000 visitors, breaking the museum's record of average daily attendance for a thematic exhibition.
      
     A spokesperson for the museum said today (April 9), "As the exhibition is receiving a large number of visitors, members of the public are advised to see the exhibition on weekdays, in the morning or after 5pm during weekends to avoid overcrowding during peak hours. Visitors may also consider using museum passes to save time queuing up at the box office."
      
     To tie in with the exhibition, the museum has organised a number of activities, among which is "Toys Fun Day" to be held on April 15 and 16, with various game booths, including a robot battle, a shooting challenge, a giant chess game and art workshops for visitors to enjoy a fun day with toys. Prior registration is not required.
      
     As one of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the exhibition, which will last until May 15, is displaying over 2 600 toys new and old which are familiar to Hong Kong people or made locally, enabling members of the public to learn about the trends of toys and the social landscapes of different eras.
      
     Highlight exhibits include a variety of classic toys made over the years such as "gung zai zi" (portrait picture cards), dress-up paper dolls, "ju fan zai" (play houses), robots and tin toys, the historical toy series of "Mobile Suit Gundam", toys from "Transformers” and "Star Wars", Barbie dolls and interactive toys integrating the latest technologies. During the exhibition period, 100 "Star Wars" Stormtroopers are lining up at the museum's entrance, the facilities nearby have been turned into a "Thomas & Friends" train station, and grassy terrain at the museum is covered with more than 1 000 yellow ducks. In addition, the museum lobby has become a play area featuring all sorts of toys, allowing both grown-ups and children to have fun together.
      
      The exhibition is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Hong Kong Toys Council and the Toys Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong, and jointly organised by the Hong Kong Museum of History, the Hong Kong Toys Council and the Toys Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong.
