The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold two talks entitled "Life in the Palace" and "Kids Corner in the Palace" in late April, to be given by speakers from the Palace Museum at the Theatre of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. These are the third and fourth talks in the Palace Museum Academy series presented by the LCSD and organised by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

     The talk on "Life in the Palace" will be held on April 22 (Saturday) from 2.30pm to 5.30pm. The speakers are research fellow of the Department of Palace Life and Imperial Ritual, Ms Yun Limei; the Director of Digital Information Department, Ms Su Yi; and associate research fellow of the Department of Palace Life and Imperial Ritual, Mr Teng Deyong. They will introduce details of the daily routine of the emperor, share stories about cats in the palace and the royal members, and talk about the operation of the imperial kitchen and methods of health preservation, revealing interesting and mysterious aspects of imperial life in the palace.

     The talk on "Kids Corner in the Palace", which will be held on April 23 (Sunday) from 3pm to 5pm, explores the palace from the children's point of view. The speakers include the Deputy Section Chief of the Department of Publicity and Education, Mr Si Junfeng, and associate research fellow of the Department of Palace Life and Imperial Ritual, Mr Wan Xiufeng. They will talk on "The Great Palace in Kids' Eyes" and "Toys for the Emperor" respectively, sharing special details of palace life and entertainment. Both children and adults are welcome to attend.

     The talks will be conducted in Putonghua (Cantonese simultaneous interpretation service available) with free admission. Interested parties can reserve seats through www.museums.gov.hk/pmtalk3 with a maximum of two seats per reservation for the talk on "Life in the Palace"; and through www.museums.gov.hk/pmtalk4 with a maximum of four seats per reservation for the talk on "Kids Corner in the Palace".

     The Palace Museum Academy talk series, which comprises four talks, is one of the events under the "In Touch with Palace Museum" campaign being presented by the LCSD from the end of 2016 to July 2017. Through a series of exhibitions, events and educational activities, the campaign highlights the essence of traditional Chinese culture and its modern connotations, as well as the role and contribution of Hong Kong and the Palace Museum in the inheritance of Chinese culture. It leads the public to discover that far from being anachronistic or outmoded, traditional culture still holds a wealth of wisdom for their daily lives.
