SFH on Brazilian meat
*********************
Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, at a media session at the Legislative Council Complex today (March 22):
Reporter: Will there be a recall of Brazilian meat and ...?
Secretary for Food and Health: We are very concerned about the quality of imported meat and poultry products from Brazil following the investigation of the Brazilian authorities. The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) has been in very close contact with the Brazilian authorities in an attempt to obtain the relevant information of the problematic products as well as details about the batch of these problematic products. Up to this moment, we cannot obtain comprehensive information in this regard. Therefore, for safety's sake, the CFS has imposed a ban on all Brazilian (frozen and chilled) meat and poultry meat for the time being. We have also strengthened our surveillance at both the import and retail levels. Once there is any result of these samples taken from various levels, we will let the public know.
