CE meets with rescue staff of MTR train fire (with photos)

The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met with the staff involved in the rescue operation of the arson case in an MTR train compartment, which took place on February 10, at Government House this afternoon (March 8) to commend the professionalism they displayed in the swift evacuation of passengers and the provision of emergency treatment to the injured.
Mr Leung said the staff, who were from the MTR Corporation (MTRC), the Police Force, the Fire Services Department and the Hospital Authority, had been both responsive and unflustered. They had controlled the situation in a timely manner and provided suitable medical treatment to the injured. They are continuing to offer psychological support to the victims and their families.
Mr Leung pointed out that the Government attaches great importance to safety on mass transit system in Hong Kong. The MTRC and relevant departments will continue to investigate and submit a report on the incident to the Government.
The Chief Executive again wished the five injured who are still hospitalised a speedy recovery.
