Hong Kong Customs combats sale of counterfeit jewellery

     Hong Kong Customs took enforcement action in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) today (March 4) and seized about 200 pieces of suspected counterfeit jewellery.
 
     Customs earlier received information alleging the display of counterfeit jewellery for order at exhibition booths of a jewellery fair held at the HKCEC. During the operation, about 200 pieces of suspected counterfeit jewellery were seized from five booths. Three men and five women aged between 21 and 48 were arrested. Investigation is ongoing.
 
     Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, it is an offence to supply or possess for sale any goods with false trade descriptions. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
