Employer fined for default of Labour Tribunal award

Global Crypto Assets Training Group Shareholding Co, Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department for default of the sum awarded by the Labour Tribunal (LT) under the Employment Ordinance (EO). The employer was convicted and fined $50,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts today (February 28). The employer was also ordered by the court to clear the outstanding balance of the sum awarded by the LT of about $171,000 to the five employees concerned.

The employer failed to pay the five employees the awarded sum of about $320,000 within 14 days after the date of the LT award.

"The judgment will disseminate the strong message to all employers that they have to pay the awarded sums according to the terms of the awards issued by the LT," a spokesman for the Labour Department said.

"The Labour Department will not tolerate these offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
