*******************************************************************************

Police yesterday (February 27) concluded a five-day territory-wide enforcement operation to remind drivers of public service vehicles, including taxis, franchised public buses, public light buses, private light buses and school private light buses, of the importance of road safety.

This was the latest in an ongoing series of operations conducted by the Police using enforcement to target moving traffic offences.

The operation resulted in the issue of 173 summonses and 1,046 fixed penalty tickets. Among the summonses and fixed penalty tickets issued, 217 for seatbelt-related offences, 174 were for speeding, 59 for using a hand-held mobile phone while driving, and 15 for failing to comply with traffic signals.

Police will also continue to take stringent enforcement actions against offences that obstruct the picking up/setting down of passengers by public service vehicles to protect the safety of passengers.
