Fraudulent phone calls purporting to be made by HAD
***************************************************

The Home Affairs Department (HAD) has recently received public enquiries about suspicious phone calls purporting to be made by HAD's enquiry hotline (2835 2500). The caller claimed to be a government staff member and asked the called party for personal information and to pay for making arrangements to rectify immigration records.

A spokesman for the HAD today (February 23) said, "We have not made the calls in question. We will neither make calls to members of the public through the hotline nor request the public to pay or provide sensitive personal information.

"We would like to remind members of the public to stay alert, and they should not follow the caller's instructions if they receive suspected fraudulent calls. If they have any doubts, they should report the matter to the Police."
