Cluster of Norovirus cases in Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The spokesperson of Queen Elizabeth Hospital made the following announcement today (February 20):
Four female patients (aged 7 to 20) and two ward staff of a paediatric and adolescent ward had presented with vomiting or diarrhoea symptoms since February 17. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patients and all were positive for Norovirus. The patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition. The condition of the staff members concerned is stable after medical treatment and they are on sick leave.
Infection control measures at the ward concerned have already been stepped up according to prevailing guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close medical surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
