The "Art Specialist Course 2016-17 Graduation Exhibition", organised by the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre of the Art Promotion Office, will be held from tomorrow (February 18) to February 27 at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, showcasing 24 graduates' achievements and sharing their creative ideas with the public.
The opening ceremony was held today (February 17). The officiating guests included the Assistant Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Heritage and Museums), Mr Chan Shing-wai; the Art Specialist Course (Ink Painting) Course Co-ordinator, Mr Leung Kui-ting; Art Specialist Course (Ceramics) instructors Ms Priscilla Chan, Mr Jakie Leung, Ms Sara Tse and Ms Florence Yim; and the Head of the Art Promotion Office, Dr Lesley Lau.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Chan said that the Art Specialist Course has been organised since 2001, providing advanced studies, training practice and exchange opportunities for those interested in art creation. In the past 15 years, art creation and the art market have continued to develop while the number of people interested in learning about art, including its appreciation and creation, has also been on the rise. To evolve with the times, new elements have been injected into the curriculum to satisfy fast-changing demand. Mr Chan extended his gratitude to the instructors for devoting themselves to grooming budding artists, and said he hoped that the graduates would continue to contribute to the art community.
The cross-media works on display at the exhibition have been created through ink painting and ceramics combined with other media and presentation techniques. These works were inspired by the artists' personal experience, surroundings, imagination and artistic experiments.
Separately, the new courses for 2017-18 are now open for application. They include Art Specialist Courses in Chinese calligraphy and sculpture, as well as Advanced Specialist Courses in ink painting and ceramics. The deadline for application is March 9.
