******************************************************************************************
The following 10 items are recommended for inclusion in the Representative List after deliberation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee: nanyin (southern tunes), the Spring and Autumn ancestral worship of clans, the Tin Hau Festival (or Birthday of the Goddess of Heaven) in Hong Kong, Mid-Autumn Festival - the Pok Fu Lam fire dragon dance, the Taoist tradition of the Zhengyi (Orthodox Unity) school, "sek pun" (basin feast), the Hong Kong-style milk tea making technique, the paper crafting technique, the sewing techniques of Hong Kong-style cheongsam and kwan kwa wedding costume, and the bamboo theatre building technique.
An activity entitled "ICH @ New Year" was held at the Sam Tung Uk Museum by the ICHO today in connection with the above public consultation. Through a wide range of activities including performance, demonstration, workshops, guided tours, games and video screening, visitors were able to learn more about the 10 recommended items.
The Representative List will provide a basis on which the Government can prioritise resources and safeguarding measures for intangible cultural heritage items of high cultural value and those that require urgent preservation.
The recommended items, relevant details and a comment form have been uploaded to the website of the ICHO (www.lcsd.gov.hk/ICHO). Members of the public can send the completed comment form on or before May 11 either by email (icho@lcsd.gov.hk), by post (Intangible Cultural Heritage Office, 2 Kwu Uk Lane, Tsuen Wan) or by facsimile (2180 8222).
