"Inspiration - Dreams Come True" exhibition to showcase first Hong Kong-made aircraft at Science Museum (with photos)
***************************************************************
An exhibition entitled "Inspiration – Dreams Come True" will be held from tomorrow (February 10) at the Hong Kong Science Museum. The exhibition will display the first locally made and registered aircraft, "Inspiration", which completed a round-the-world journey last year, with the aim of highlighting local skills as well as arousing public interest in aviation technology.
An opening ceremony for the exhibition was held today (February 9). Officiating guests included the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li; the pilot and project founder of "Inspiration", Mr Hank Cheng; Inspiration's aircraft engineer, Mr Gary Tat; and the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Science Museum, Ms Karen Sit.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Lau expressed his gratitude to the Inspiration team. He said Inspiration was widely reported by the local media during its journey, adding that as a "goodwill ambassador" the aircraft demonstrated the "can do" spirit of Hong Kong - the city's ability to overcome difficulties - to the world.
In August last year, Inspiration successfully took off at Hong Kong International Airport to start a 78-day round-the-world flight. After travelling across 20 countries and landing at 40 airports, the aircraft completed its journey and returned to Hong Kong in November.
Apart from the Inspiration aircraft itself, the exhibition will showcase invaluable exhibits including Mr Cheng's flight log book, flight instruments, and tools used to build the aircraft. Through the exhibition visitors will learn how Mr Cheng and his team overcame challenges and finally succeeded with the Inspiration project. Sharing sessions will be held during the exhibition period for the Inspiration team to interact with visitors.
The exhibition, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and organised by the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Inspiration team, will run until April 19.
