Standard Working Hours Committee submits report to CE
*****************************************************
Regarding the report submitted by the Standard Working Hours Committee today (January 27), the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, responded as follows:
"After more than three years of hard work and discussion, the Standard Working Hours Committee (SWHC) submitted to me its report today.
"Standard working hours is a highly complex and controversial subject with widespread and far-reaching implications for the community and economy. The SWHC has carefully examined a number of related issues, including conducting an in-depth working hours survey and two extensive rounds of public consultation, as well as making reference to relevant information which includes the Consultation Report on Legislating for Standard Working Hours that the labour sector submitted to me.
"The Government will take full account of the report and the views of various sectors of the community in striving to map out, within the term of the current Government, the working hours policy direction that suits Hong Kong's socio-economic situation.
"I sincerely thank the Chairperson, Dr Leong Che-hung, and Members of the SWHC for their untiring effort over a period of more than three years."
