Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

Yau Kwong Electricians, Plumbers and Drainage Company Limited was fined $66,500 at Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts today (January 19) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on June 23, 2016 at a ground floor shop renovation site in Lam Tei. A worker, while installing water pipes near the ceiling, fell about 2.6 metres from a wooden ladder to the ground. He sustained serious head injuries and subsequently passed away.
