LegCo Panel on Home Affairs visits Hong Kong Sports Institute (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     At the invitation of the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI), the Legislative Council (LegCo) Panel on Home Affairs conducted a visit to HKSI in Sha Tin today (‍January 17) to better understand its latest development and the training provided for elite athletes. 
      
     Accompanied by the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah; the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Yeung Tak-keung; the Chairman of HKSI, Mr‍ Carlson Tong; and the Chief Executive of HKSI, Dr ‍Trisha Leahy, members of the panel toured around a number of athlete training facilities at the Swimming Complex and the Sports Complex at HKSI, including the Sports Medicine Centre operated by the Elite Training Science and Technology Division of HKSI. Panel members were able to get a better understanding of the career development and medical support services, as well as the latest training technology for elite athletes provided by HKSI. Panel members also took the opportunity to talk to the athletes to learn of their training at HKSI. 
      
     Members then attended a lunch with representatives of the Home Affairs Bureau and HKSI. They exchanged views on training of elite athletes and elite sports development in Hong Kong.

     Members who participated in the visit included the Chairman of Panel on Home Affairs, Mr Ma Fung-kwok, Panel members, Mr Paul Tse, Mr Leung Kwok-hung, Mr Chan Chi-chuen, Ms Yung Hoi-yan, Mr Luk Chung-hung, Mr Lau Kwok-fan and Mr Nathan Law, as well as non-Panel members, Mr Poon Siu-ping and Dr Chiang Lai-wan.
