     The Government announced today (January 17) that Mr Cheung Tin-cheung, Deputy Director of Buildings, will take up the post of Director of Buildings on January 23, 2017, when Mr Hui Siu-wai will proceed on pre-retirement leave.
 
     The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Clement Cheung, said, "Mr Cheung has proven leadership skills, profound professional knowledge in building safety and extensive operational experience. I am confident that he will be able to lead the Buildings Department to meet the challenges ahead."
 
     On the retirement of Mr Hui, Mr Cheung said, "During his tenure as Director of Buildings, Mr Hui has embraced the vision of the department in setting and enforcing safety, health and environmental standards for private buildings. I sincerely wish him a happy retirement."
 
     Brief biographical notes on the two officers are set out below:
 
Mr Hui Siu-wai

     Aged 59, Mr Hui joined the Government as a Student Building Surveyor in November 1978 and was promoted to Chief Building Surveyor in February 1998, to Government Building Surveyor in October 2009 and to Deputy Director of Buildings in July 2012 before being appointed as Director of Buildings in March 2014.
 
Mr Cheung Tin-cheung

     Aged 57, Mr Cheung joined the Government as a Student Building Surveyor in September 1982 and was promoted to Chief Building Surveyor in September 2005, to Government Building Surveyor in July 2012 and to Deputy Director of Buildings in June 2015.
