Hong Dau Construction Company Limited, Proficiency Industrial Products Limited and VT Engineering Company Limited were fined $520,000, $120,000 and $150,000 respectively at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (January 16) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.
 
     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on March 25, 2014, at a building renovation site in the Mid-Levels, Hong Kong. Two workers, while undertaking external renovation work on a tower working platform at an upper floor level of a building, fell to death when the working platform suddenly broke apart and collapsed to the ground.
