Following is the transcript of remarks by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session at the lobby of the West Wing, Central Government Offices today (January 12):
Earlier this morning, I have tendered to the Chief Executive my resignation from the post of Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, and requested him to seek the approval of my resignation by the Central People's Government under Article 48(5) of the Basic Law. I told the CE in my resignation letter that there is only one reason for me to resign, and that is, if my resignation is approved by the Central People's Government, I intend to prepare to contest in the upcoming Chief Executive election.
It has been an honour and privilege for me to have served the people of Hong Kong for over 36 years. I wish to take this opportunity to thank the current and former CEs for their support; all the Politically Appointed Officials for their team work cooperation; my civil service colleagues for their dedication and hard work; and the many members of LegCo, DCs, professional institutions, NGOs, and civic-minded individuals serving on government boards and committees with whom I have worked over the years in my various capacities.
I will take leave from tomorrow and will share some thoughts about the next step if and when approval of my resignation is given by the Central People's Government.
Thank you.
