Guangdong Music Series to feature delightful programmes

The Guangdong Music Series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will be held from February to April, featuring eight music ensembles performing a range of delightful Guangdong music programmes.
The programmes are as follows:
"The Lament of Lady Zhaojun" Yangqin Concert by Zhao Lili

Theatre, Yau Ma Tei Theatre
Tickets: $160, $240
Guangdong Yangqin musician Zhao Lili plays with a delicate and intricate style and a pure and elegant tone. This time, Zhao is collaborating with various Guangdong music virtuosos, including Chan Ki-cham and Yu Qiwei, to perform a series of Guangdong music classics for the audience.
"Cantonese Music Assembly" - Cross-disciplines Guangdong Music Concert

Tickets: $120, $180
The Cantonese Music Assembly represents young musicians in Hong Kong and Guangzhou converging to play music together. The concert aims at showcasing the vibrant and diverse culture of Guangdong and how Guangdong music crosses over with external cultures. The performance pieces will include "A Song of Triumph", "In Celebration of Good Times", "Autumn Moon Upon Placid Lake", "Birds Returning to the Woods", "United We Go" and "Village Children".

The performance on March 18 will feature the music and songs of Chaozhou led by Lau Fok-kwong, and the performance on March 19 will feature Guangdong music performed by three generations of fine musicians and led by To Wing.

The Hong Kong Yue Yue Tuan, comprising a group of professional musicians, will team up with National Class One Musician and highly acclaimed figure in Cantonese operatic music Bu Canrong, renowned Guangdong music performer and instructor of Guangdong song art in Hong Kong Tsoi Wing-hong and conductor Chan Kam-fai to perform a series of Guangdong music masterpieces to rekindle fond memories of Guangdong music among audience members.
"The Voice of Guangdong Saloon Music" Concert

The concerts will feature classic Guangdong music masterpieces and songs to be performed by renowned Guangdong musicians and a vocalist.
Lecture Series on the Music History and Hong Kong

Speaker: Professor Yu Siu-wah
Professor Yu Siu-wah's research interests range from Chinese musical instruments, instrumental music and the music of the Manchus and Mongols in the Qing court to music and politics in Hong Kong. In the lectures, he will look into the localisation of the Mainland's music culture in Hong Kong, as well as its internationalisation towards the overseas Chinese communities.
