***************************************************************
The new TV programme "In Touch with Palace Museum", co-produced by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), will premiere this Saturday (January 7). Apart from introducing the Palace Museum's unique architecture, imperial rituals, gardening and relics, the programme will feature sites inside the palace which have been renovated recently and have never been opened for shooting before. It will tell the public about the essence of traditional Chinese culture and its meaning, as well as the significant and unique roles played by Hong Kong and the Palace Museum in the conservation of historical relics.
Officiating at the launching ceremony today (January 3), the Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Culture), Dr Louis Ng, said that in 2012 the LCSD and the Palace Museum signed a letter of intent on co-operation to open up more cultural collaboration opportunities. This allows Hong Kong citizens and visitors from the Mainland and elsewhere to understand the Palace Museum as well as Chinese culture and art spanning 5 000 years of history. To further strengthen cultural collaboration, the department, together with the Palace Museum, launched in November last year the "In Touch with Palace Museum" campaign, which will run for a period of nine months. The campaign will enable the public to learn about the culture, art, history and architecture of the Palace Museum from different perspectives and with an interesting and lively approach through a wide range of exhibitions, talks and education and promotion activities.
The TV programme "In Touch with Palace Museum", which is the highlight activity of the campaign, examines from a cultural perspective the connection between the Palace Museum and Hong Kong, as well as the unique role of Hong Kong in preserving and promoting Chinese culture and historical relics.
The "In Touch with Palace Museum" TV programme consists of four episodes. It will be broadcast on TVB Jade at 7.30pm on four consecutive Saturdays from January 7.
Through a series of activities, the "In Touch with Palace Museum" campaign is going into the community and introducing to the public the contributions of and roles played by Hong Kong and the Palace Museum in the preservation of Chinese culture. It can also inspire people to learn that far being anachronistic or outmoded, traditional culture still holds a wealth of wisdom for daily life. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is the major partner of the campaign.
