The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:
The Judiciary today (January 3) announced the appointment of Her Honour Judge Susana Maria D'Almada Remedios and His Honour Judge Wilson Chan Ka-shun as Judges of the Court of First Instance of the High Court. The appointments will take effect from January 4, 2017.
The appointments are made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.
The biographical notes of the two appointees are as follows:
Her Honour Judge Susana Maria D'Almada Remedios
Her Honour Judge D'Almada Remedios was born in Hong Kong in 1964. She obtained her LL.B. from the University of London (External) in 1985 and passed the Bar Examination of the Council of Legal Education in the United Kingdom in 1986. She was called to the Bar in England (Inner Temple) and Hong Kong both in 1986, and was admitted as Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Northern Territory of Australia in 1991. She was in private practice between 1987 and 1995. She joined the Judiciary as Permanent Magistrate in 1995 and was appointed as District Judge in 2007.
His Honour Judge Wilson Chan Ka-shun
His Honour Judge Chan was born in Hong Kong in 1962. He obtained his LL.B. from the University College London in the United Kingdom in 1984 and passed the Bar Examination of the Council of Legal Education in the United Kingdom in 1985. He was called to the Bar in England and Wales (Middle Temple) and in Hong Kong both in 1985. He was admitted as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1995. He was in private practice between 1986 and 2013. He joined the Judiciary as District Judge in 2013.
