T·PARK attracts over 41 000 visitors (with photos)
**************************************************
T·PARK, an integrated sludge treatment facility, environmental education centre and leisure facility, has attracted a large number of visitors from various professional bodies and community organisations, institutions and schools, as well as other members of the public, since its opening in May last year. Up to today (January 2), the number of visitors has surpassed 41 000.
The first ever waste-to-energy environmental facility in Hong Kong, T·PARK combines advanced technologies with facilities of different natures. In addition, it has incorporated various green building elements and won a number of awards for its outstanding design. Recently, T·PARK won the Grand Award and the Grand Award for Sustainability of the Design for Asia Awards 2016 organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre, the Merit Award (Commercial Building) of the Green Building Award 2016 jointly organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and the Professional Green Building Council, and the Certificate of Merit (Innovation and Creativity) in the 2016 Hong Kong Awards for Industries organised by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
To promote public awareness of sustainable development, T·PARK features various educational, recreational and ecological facilities which are open to members of the public to showcase the benefits of converting waste to energy and to enhance public understanding of waste management, recycling and upcycling. Among these facilities, T·CAFE, which provides light meals for visitors of T·PARK, is designed with a theme of upcycling. The majority of the furniture at the cafe is made from waste materials. Fenders from the former Wan Chai Ferry Pier and old school chairs were refurbished and upcycled to become tables and benches. Some signature utensils used by the cafe have been remade from mugs which were considered damaged due to minor defects formed during the manufacturing process.
Located on the top floor of the Administration Building of T·PARK, T·SKY enables visitors to enjoy a panoramic view of Deep Bay and the scenic mountains nearby. In addition, it is also a gallery for showcasing a wide range of upcycled products. While enjoying the spectacular environment of T·PARK, visitors can also learn more about the green culture of sustainable development.
