General clinic service on holiday following first day of January
***************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Hospital Authority (HA) today (December 30) announces that 13 general out-patient clinics (see table below) will remain open on the holiday following the first day of January (January 2, 2017). Members of the public are reminded to make advance booking through the telephone system as usual for an appointment.
The HA spokesman added that the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department in public hospitals will also operate as usual during the holiday to serve the patients with urgent medical needs. As Hong Kong is entering the winter peak season of influenza, in view of the expected increase in A&E attendance during the holiday and the first working day following the holiday, the priority treatment would be accorded to patients with critical and emergency conditions as assessed under the established A&E triage system.
Since the queuing time for semi-urgent and non-urgent patients would likely be longer than usual, the spokesman appeals to members of the public for their understanding and co-operation while waiting in the A&E Department for consultation. As an alternative, non-urgent patients are advised to consider seeking consultation at general out-patient clinics or clinics of private doctors. The information of holiday clinic service within the district will be posted at prominent locations in all A&E Departments. Members of the public are also welcome to call the HA Infoline (2882 4866) for the service information on holiday GOPC.
To facilitate public understanding of public hospital services during the winter surge, A&E waiting time information, key statistics such as A&E attendances, medical in-patient bed occupancy rate and hyperlink to private healthcare services websites are available on HA website (www.ha.org.hk/goto/wintersurge/en) and the mobile app of "HA Touch".
